Janet Sterling Johnson, Director

Mrs. Johnson is no stranger to the music classroom. She has taught general classroom music, band, orchestra and chorus for Fulton and DeKalb counties. Although piano is her passion, she often struggles to remember just how many instruments she plays. From the woodwinds to the strings, Mrs. Johnson finds delight in playing almost every genre of music. She is also the founder of ‘Music to His Ears Conservatory’ where she teaches private piano to both children and adult alike.

Mrs. Johnson is a graduate of Spelman College in Atlanta. As a music major, she was a member of the world renowned Spelman College Glee Club and Pi Kappa Lambda Music Honor Society.  She received additional educational and music training from Georgia State University.

Her career includes being the Director of Music for the Abundant Life Church since April, 1981. At Abundant Life she has had the pleasure of directing the mass choir as well as the women’s choir, Tapestry of Praise. She has written, arranged and orchestrated several songs for praise and worship and has been the church pianist for almost 30 years.

Besides teaching piano, for the last six years, Mrs. Johnson has taught and organized orchestras and bands for several public, private schools and homeschooled groups. This has given her the opportunity to introduce and nurture many children in the world of music. She believes that music unlocks the mind to the world of creativity. At Firm Foundation every student is taught to read music. The graduated program is structured so that as each child grows, they will be able to select their instrument of choice by the fourth grade.

Mrs. Johnson is married to James Johnson, her love and support for 32 years. They have three children of which they homeschooled for many years. She beams with pride when she speaks of her children’s academic accomplishments and special talents.
